I am ecstatic that this baby is a girl! I thought it was too much to hope for, but apparently not. I don't know if it's possible, but I think I am even more excited than I realized I would be. It is all I can think about - I just keep going over in my head how the technician said she was sure it was a girl, and then I look at my ultrasound pictures repeatedly to see the one where it shows she is clearly a girl! I'm so excited... and I have nothing girl in my house at all! I have to get pink clothes, hair bows, girl blankets and sheets, I almost don't even know where to start! Ok, I guess I don't have to get any of that stuff (I'm sure she would have no idea that I was dressing her in boy clothes haha), but I'm just so excited that I think I will have to splurge a little bit! I've always wanted a girl, so this is literally my dream come true. Even as a kid, when I thought of having a baby - I always dreamed of a girl baby, boy babies didn't even cross my mind until Hayden came along! Not to mention, I'm excited about having another girl in the house - someone who will (hopefully) have a few more of my interests than the boys do (such as My Little Ponies), and a mother-daughter relationship that will be different than a mother-son relationship as they turn into teenagers and then adults. I am just so grateful to be able to have this opportunity!
The ultrasound yesterday went really well. I was very very nervous, I was actually shaking going into it. The ultrasound technician asked how I was doing, I said fine, then I laid down and she asked if we wanted to know what we were having. I said yes. She started scanning the baby - starting with the head - and the whole time I was just focused down by it's legs, trying to see if I could see anything. I kept thinking to myself that I was not seeing anything obvious sticking out, and then when she got down to bottom, she said, "You guys are having a girl!". I said, "SERIOUSLY!?" And she said, "yes! Are you going to cry? Here have a tissue!" I told her that I already had 2 boys and wanted a girl so badly, and she said, "Oh so is that why you've seemed so nervous and are breathing hard! Well it's definitely a girl, it couldn't be any more girl than this! And I've never been wrong in 10 years, so if I am I will pay for your baby shower, baby clothes, everything!" I was tearing up and shaking so hard - I looked at Brandon just completely in shock that it was a girl. I honestly BELIEVED this baby was going to be a boy. I guess for some reason I didn't really think it was possible for me to have a girl. Then I asked her if she could tell if anything was wrong with the baby, and she said she absolutely could, and that if she saw anything wrong she would go over it with me immediately and they would set me up with an appointment to go over it with the doctor. From then on, she went through all the baby's main parts - her brain, heart, kidneys, stomach, face, leg bones, and her "beautiful" spine :) And she said everything looked perfect! I was so relieved and so happy!
Brandon actually was pretty sick during the ultrasound - so he barely said anything. And immediately when it was over he went to the car because he wasn't feeling good. But he did tell me that he was studying my face before the lady told us what it was, and that I looked "mad", so he thought that must mean I had seen that it was a boy! Haha. So then I went on to see the nurse practitioner by myself (since my normal doctor is out of town). She went to get the ultrasound results before coming in to see me, and first thing she said was "oh it's a girl - did you already know?" I said, "no! we just found out and I'm soo soo happy!" She asked if I already had boys, I said yes, and she said she's happy that I got my girl - and that she likes girls because she is one haha. And that my baby is due on her birthday! She said the ultrasound results looked really good and that the baby was measuring 4 days ahead (at 20 weeks 6 days instead of my actual 20 weeks 2 days). We listened to the heartbeat and all was well! Then when she walked out she announced to everyone in the office "She's got her girl - yippee!" I was so embarrassed... lol. A couple of the receptionist/nurse people kind of chuckled.
Okay, like I said I think I reacted to the baby being a girl much more strongly (in a positive way) that I anticipated. So I wonder how I would have reacted if it had been a boy? The night before the ultrasound I was going over all the positives of having another boy. First, I have EVERYTHING I need for a boy, so that would mean zero preparation. Secondly, I already know boys, I feel comfortable around them and not worried. I am already a little nervous to be having a girl because I've had no experience! I think a boy would be much easier and more familiar in that regard. Plus, I think it would be cool to say, "My three sons!". I honestly would not mind having another boy, the only thing I think that would make me sad is that I'd feel like I'd be missing out on the experience of a girl. Obviously, the baby cannot help what he/she is, so I would love a boy baby no matter what. I wouldn't mourn him for what he is. If we ever have another one, I honestly believe that I will not care one way or another if it's a girl or a boy!
