37 Week Appointment

So, I showed up at 9:30 AM this morning and asked if the doctor was in (Lisa came over to watch the kids for me - thank goodness!). She was but they said that the doctor was in surgery until probably at least 9:45 and that there were 4 patients ahead of me. They asked if I wanted to wait - it was up to me - and I said yes. I had brought a book. Well, she didn't get out of surgery until like 10:20 or something, and I counted FIVE people ahead of me - not 4. Anyway, I was the last person she saw before lunch around 11:45 or so. I'm not sure it was worth the wait. But whatever. So, here's what happened.

She measured me and I was measuring 35.5 cm - about 2 weeks behind. But, she didn't seem too concerned. Of course, me over here, I'm completely freaking out! I don't know how I'm going to get through the next week(s) with this knowledge. My other kids both either measured right on, or ahead. So, I basically have another reason to worry. The nurse practitioner never measures me though - so maybe I should have just gone to her and then I wouldn't be worrying about it. Ha.

It also seemed to take FOREVER for her to find the heartbeat - it was 142 when she did - but I was laying there with my heart pounding that she might not find it. I'm so tired of being worried. I asked her if she could tell what position the baby was in and she said she'd check. It turns out that she is head down and not breech! YAY! So, that was one good thing I found out. Also, my cervix is CLOSED! I am actually somewhat relieved. First, that means I probably won't deliver in the next week (probably not, but could). I am feeling so stressed out, that I actually think it's better that I don't have a baby yet. I'm just not ready. On the other hand though, it just gives me more time to worry and stress about this baby and her movements, and now her measuring behind... ugh. I think I will be so glad when February is over :( It seems to be going so slowly.

My blood pressure was really good and I gained zero weight in the last 9 days. I'm wondering if that maybe has something to do with me measuring behind? I don't know, but I'm not sure why I didn't gain weight. I certainly wasn't TRYING to not gain any. I haven't been eating all that great - but certainly I haven't been starving myself. I actually was hoping I hadn't gained more than 2 pounds, but apparently I had nothing to worry about there. I am up 26 pounds total now (still).

I also asked my doctor the thing that has been giving me nightmares this last month - whether I should be worried about this baby getting too big. I told her about how when Theo came out they seemed to have a hard time getting him out and I have been so worried that this baby could be as big or bigger with wider shoulders and then she would get stuck, etc. I just said I was extremely worried and asked her if I should be. She said no, don't worry, and that the baby will "tell us" if it gets too big to come out. She said the baby gains most their weight the last month and that they would monitor it to make sure. And, she said she isn't worried at all. Haha. Then she asked if that was my hint to her that I wanted to schedule a cesarean - I was like heck no! I have no desire to have a c-section. She asks me if I want one every time I have a baby - I think she must like c-sections or something?

Anyway, I'm not exactly happy, but I do feel relieved that I saw the doctor and that I don't think I'm too close to having a baby.

Oh also - they still have my due date as February 26th, so that would put me at 37 weeks 4 days today.

  1. I've never someone worry as much as you do about this pregnancy. Seriously don't worry about the outside measurement being "behind". I never got bigger than 32-33 cm, and I tell you a smaller baby is sooo easy to push out. And Elias was/is perfectly healthy and happy. Which should make you feel better since your fear (before the appointment) is a too big baby. Also probably means your baby won't come as early as your other two (or not, who can really predict this sort of stuff?). Trust your doctor that its nothing to worry about. And I hope you deliver on February 29, so keep that baby baking!!!
